Workshops

Small-group sessions designed to ground you through making and mindful practice. Creative by nature, restorative by design.

  • Artisanal Soap Making

This is more than a class — it's a ritual. We begin with a cold-water swim to awaken the body, followed by coffee before foraging for seaweed along the False Bay coast. Back home, you'll be guided through the soap-making process, choosing your own scents and creating something truly personal. While the soap sets, we share bubbles, canapés, and conversations about life. You leave with your handmade soap, the recipe, and — most importantly — a smile.

    • Duration: ~3.5 hours

    • Group size: Max 8 participants

    • Includes all materials, drinks, and canapés

  • Breathe Class

Guided by Kari, the Breathe class is a pause from the noise of everyday life. Kari discovered the power of breathwork techniques during her own cancer journey — using them to find calm, strength, and clarity when everything felt uncertain. Now she shares those same practices with others, helping you regulate your nervous system, quiet your mind, and reconnect with your inner balance.

This isn't about performance or technique — it's about creating space to simply be.

    • Duration: 1.5 hours

    • Group size: Max 10 participants

    • No prior experience needed

Retreats

Miomo retreats are designed to take you out of the daily grind and give you space to reset. These gatherings use creativity to tame anxiety, ground you in nature, and surround you with supportive community.

Over 3–4 days, you'll experience a rhythm of making and breathwork, cold-water swims, coastal walks, and quiet reflection. Evenings will slow into long dinners and fireside conversations. With a curated guest list, each retreat brings together like-minded people — creating space for real chemistry, connection, and renewal.

Set on the wild and beautiful False Bay coast, our retreats are intimate by design, limited to just 8 participants.

Coming soon in 2026.

About Us

A polaroid into our lives.

Hello!

We're Kari and Ilze. For years we worked in global tech companies, leading large teams under relentless pressure. On paper it looked like success. In reality, it came at a cost. We wanted something different — a life that was quieter, more intentional, and rooted in creating with our own hands.

Miomo grew from that shift, and from the balance we bring to each other. Ilze is the creative doer — always making, building, and bringing ideas into form. Kari is the soulful planner and intuitive — grounding us with presence, reflection, and deeper meaning. Together, we're a yin and yang: head and heart, action and stillness, making and being.

Our creative workshops — from soap making to Breathe sessions of mindful writing and stillness — remind us how creativity grounds you, pulling you out of your head and back into your body. Our retreats are curated breakaways: space to unplug, breathe, and find perspective. Together, they're an invitation to get grounded and take back your power.

"The antidote to anxiety is not control, it's creativity." — Martha Beck

After many years abroad, we returned to South Africa and found a small piece of paradise on the False Bay coast. Our mornings begin with swims in the tidal pool, sand underfoot, and long mountain walks. Miomo is our way of sharing that balance — slowing down, reconnecting, and rediscovering yourself through the simple act of making and the deeper practice of retreat.

Miomo stands for "Make It On My Own" — a philosophy of taking back control of your life, your health, and your time.
